The SP+ Legal Department is responsible for handling day-to-day legal matters for the Company, including contract drafting/review/negotiations, corporate controls & procedures, corporate governance and compliance, mergers & acquisition, and dispute resolution and litigation.  Our attorneys are very closely integrated with management and are involved with all aspects of the business operations.

We are seeking an attorney with contract drafting and review experience to work on a broad range of transactional work.  You will be responsible for reviewing a variety of contracts under the supervision of a senior attorney, with the opportunity to work both independently and collaboratively.  We expect the successful candidate to progress to handling their own matters and be on a path to becoming the legal lead in a particular area, which could be Procurement, IT, HR, or another business function or operations group.  We are committed to building a team of experts that provides best in class legal services and brings diverse perspectives and experiences to support the company.

You will report to Vice President, Deputy General Counsel.

• Draft/review a variety of contracts that support our business operations and functions, including client and vendor agreements, procurement agreements, information technology and software license agreements, consulting and services agreements, confidentiality agreements, and related documents
• Review RFPs, providing legal analysis and risk assessments
• Be a proactive and trusted business partner by advising on various contract issues
• Develop an understanding of the business and our industry
• Coordinate resolution of business disputes and manage outside counsel, as needed
• Provide support to the Chief Legal Officer and other attorneys as needed

• Law degree and current license to practice law in the State of Illinois
• 2+ years of work experience in a corporate law department or business/transactional practice group of law firm
• Experience with a wide variety of contracts, including procurement, technology, leasing, vendor, and confidentiality agreements
• Hardworking, detail-oriented, enthusiastic person who seeks to join a fun and close-knit team of professionals
• Ability to work under pressure, prioritize, and multi-task to meet deadlines
• Practical decision-making and problem-solving skills
• Excellent transactional and legal writing skills
• Ability to quickly identify and grasp complex legal issues and communicate key issues to our colleagues and business partners
